Matthew is regularly instructed in (re)insurance, funds, energy and commodities trading, maritime and telecommunications related disputes, in addition to insolvency and restructuring matters. He has over 14 years’ experience of interlocutory, trial and appellate advocacy, before both courts and arbitration tribunals.
Prior to Bermuda, Matthew worked for a year in the British Virgin Islands for another leading offshore law firm, where he predominantly advised and assisted on a complex international US$ 1 billion dispute concerning Russian energy (oil, gas and nuclear) and international commodities entities, with public international law issues. He also advised liquidators on cross-border insolvencies and pursued international freezing injunctions, extending to luxury superyachts.
Before moving offshore, Matthew practised as a Barrister in London, England for ten years, in court litigation and arbitration predominantly concerning (re)insurance, commercial trade and corporations, energy and commodities, maritime/shipping and telecommunications, many with an international dimension. He also acted for and advised creditors, shareholders and liquidators in corporate insolvency matters.
Matthew is a qualified and endorsed Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
